Adult and two juveniles charged with 2nd degree murder

MINDEN, La. – The death of a Minden man has prompted Minden Police to upgrade the charges of two juveniles and 23-year-old Roshun Huey, all of Minden, to second degree murder, up from second degree battery.
The three males are accused of the October 20, Columbia Street beating of 39-year-old Cedric Kingsby, which left the victim comatose and hospitalized . Charges were upgraded today after Kingsby succumbed to his injuries shortly after 6 a.m.
“We have had a couple of meetings with the Webster Parish District Attorney’s Office. There is a strong possibility that these two juveniles may be tried as adults,” said Minden Police Chief Steve Cropper. “The district attorney’s office will have 30 days to make that decision.”
Cropper said the pair of 16-year-olds have and extensive criminal history.
The trio was tracked down and arrested earlier this month by Minden Police after receiving tips from residents regarding the beating. However, Cropper said other than the suspects, no witnesses have come forward.
“Initial information claimed he (Kingsby) was beaten with a pistol,” Cropper said during an October 24 interview. “According to all three suspects, there was no gun… they beat him with their hands.”
“There was a wound on the back of his (Kingsby) head that we were unable to look at because he was confined to a C-Collar,” Cropper said this afternoon. “One of the suspects said after they knocked Kingsby out they continued hitting him.”
Kingsby’s body will be sent to Little Rock to undergo an autopsy. Cropper said that an autopsy could possibly help determine if any instrument was used to strike the victim.
The juveniles remain in custody at Ware Youth Center in Coushatta. Huey is in custody at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center in Webster Parish. The names of the teens are not being released at this time due to their ages. One of the teens will turn 17 in December. The other will turn 17 years old early 2013.
Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Minden Police Department at 318.377.1212.
