Grandfather Mountain Rime Time
These images were taken on top of Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC on November 1, 2012. Avery County was blessed with early snowfall this year, accompanied with some fairly low temperatures. When water droplets or fog freezes it creates rime ice, and this is what the magical stuff looks like on Grandfather Mountain. The Swinging Bridge, located at the top of the mountain, is currently covered in rime ice. It was a wondrous thing to behold. The wind was blowing at about 70 mph, so it was a rather quick and frigid shoot. Even so, it was truly a spectacular place to be on the first day of November. The scenery and elements of nature can take your breath away, in more ways than one.
