Georgia College Evacuation
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Georgia College and State University was evacuated for several hours after someone called in a bomb threat.
University spokesman John Hachtel says the local 911 center contacted the university around 3 p.m. Thursday to say they'd received a threat that mentioned the campus and a bomb.
Hachtel says university leaders immediately decided to evacuate the campus and activated the emergency alert system, which includes text messages, emails, loud speakers and sirens. He says students and teachers flooded out of buildings and off the campus.
By 5 p.m. residence halls and dining facilities had been cleared and students were being allowed to enter those areas. Classroom buildings were still being searched.
