This iReport is part of an assignment:
Your vision for America |

My vision for America
I am not in favor of the recent heavy cuts at all levels of government, in health care for the mentally ill. The cost of doing so is enormous, both financially and socially. I want to see FAR MORE programs designed to detect and treat mental illness early and intensively. Early treatment is far cheaper than dealing with emergencies. I want to see changes in the laws that allow mentally ill people to avoid treatment when they clearly need it; I feel our country has gone severely wrong in that direction, much more so in the last 30 years.
I want to see the existing gun laws reinforced in order to prevent violent tragedies, and I do believe there is a need for more in-depth evaluation of a person's mental health before allowing the purchase of a gun or ammunition. There are flaws in the existing programs that i feel must be improved. I feel that the NRA and similar groups have been able to construct a reign of terror in our country and that they have far too much influence and power over gun control laws in the US, to everyone's detriment. I feel that internet gun, weapon, equipment and ammunition sales in the US need to be conducted with more controls, regardless of what country the company behind the website is in.
As for improving the economy I feel that our best path to that, is expansion of existing good programs - supporting innovation, invention, education.
I want to see the United States have an open door to immigration from people who are willing and able to work and have education and experience. The INS needs more personnel and more evaluation and oversight.
I want to see more oversight and transparency of businesses for hiring and employment practices. I feel our country needs an improvement in the employee rights area, right from the first interview forward.
