I long for an America filled with people who are proud to say that they live in the greatest country on the planet. I want the people who choose to live in America do so because of their love for this country; not so that they can take the best of her and then say that another country is greater. I want a nation that is strong and respected, not feared or ridiculed. I want to feel hopeful again about the state of the country. I want unemployment to go down. I want the government to make the hard choice to cut programs that are nothing but a drain on the economy. I want my fellow Americans to make the choice to live within their means. I want each man, woman and child to take responsibility for their actions. I don’t want a bailout. I want to learn a lesson from my folly. I want people to be forgiving and compassionate, while also being strong and protective of those they love and care for. I want to see an end to looting during disasters. I want to see this nation begin to treat those who are “mentally ill” as if they were trying to cure AIDS or cancer. That would really be something. I want the races to be color blind. I want a President who reminds me of Lincoln, Washington or Adams. I don’t want the best years of America to be fifty years ago. I want the best of her to be right around the corner, waiting to be experienced. I want to raise children to love their country, the way I was raised. I want to see others doing the same thing. I don’t want another 9/11 to be the reason why we feel a surge of national pride.
So that was a small list of "wants" I thought of. I already have what I need because I live in this great land. I have food in my belly, a roof over my head, a car to drive to a job I love, a husband who could not be more right for me, and I am safe.
