    Jersey Shore memories

And so I think I'll travel on to Avalon

Every year for the last 35 years my family has traveled to Avalon. I was just 6 months old during our first trip. The pictures we have from all of those trips are our most treasured, the memories the most often brought up, and every year now even as adults my siblings and I can't wait to go back.

It took some time for our significant others and now our spouses to get it but when my very young niece said at an early age that she wanted to go back to the beach house they quickly understood....avalon is so much than a beach town it is a place that thousands of memories are made.

In a world full of change our trips to avalon were one thing that always stayed the same. We stayed at the same house for about 30 years until the owners built a new one. We biked on the route, ate at the same restaurants, and shopped at the same shops. We grew older but all that really seemed to change were the hopes and dreams we told our cherished ocean about.

Just three weeks ago, we traveled back to NJ. My brother decided to get married a few beaches down in Cape May on an absolutely beautiful october saturday. The next day, avalon seemed to be calling my name and my husband and I decided to walk a long stretch of beach... the last time as the two of us. We talked about how the next time we would walk this stretch...our favorite...we would be pushing a jogging stroller. My husband who now clearly understands what avalon means to me also said how much fun it will be to show our new little guy avalon.

Now from what I understand there isn't much left of that stretch of beach. Our memories though are still there and I have no doubt avalon will be back and our new son due in just 6 weeks will form his own Avalaon memories.
