This iReport is part of an assignment:
'Superstorm' Sandy: Your stories
Far Rockaway's Boardwalks: Sandy's Temper on Display
The boardwalks along Far Rockaways beaches, split and resting on their sides, perch like sentinels in the sand, Sandy's temper on display.
A hazard of broken boards, exposed nails and gaping holes, the boardwalks that stretch the length of Far Rockaway's beaches draw the curious out to explore. Couples, families and people walking alone venture out on to the boardwalks to see the crazy and chaotic mess for themselves.
Tossed about during Hurricane Sandy, some of the boardwalks are bent just so sligthly, others are tilted nearly upright and almost vertical, while others still are thrust sideways, jutting in to the entrance of the buildings behind them.
There are no streams of yellow police tape warning people to stay off the tangled maze of wood, nails and metal. Be curious, explore from a distance, and be safe. The police, fire department and medics have their hands full already. Respect the destruction for what it is, dangerous.
