My American Hero
We knew of each other in high school. Five years, thousands of miles, and a 12 hour time difference later we found one another. I was at home taking care of my recently operated mother, he was on a base in Afghanistan. He gave me hope when I didn't think to have, and since has been living proof that good things do exist.
Three months after initial contact and three countries later, I met for the first time the person who's face I'd only seen through a computer screen. He has and continues to make me a better, stronger person. He pushes me to my limits and I thank him for it. Because of his conviction, his strength and his heart I am the happiest woman on earth. I salute him and every military personnel, both veteran and active, for everything they've sacrificed.
I am more proud of his accomplishments than he will ever know. He is my best friend, my companion, my American Hero.
