Hippies To The Rescue
Union Beach, NJ.
If anyone remembers the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Waveland,MS. and how a group of hippies known as the Rainbow Family of Living Light came to the rescue there. (http://risingfromruin.msnbc.com/2005/11/meals_and_dance.html) Then I am happy to tell you that they are at it again.
This time set up at the Union Beach Fire Company in Union Beach, NJ.
A disaster relief center consisting of a free kitchen and warming center has been established by some of the same folks that started The New Waveland Cafe.
These young people have been traveling from all corners of america to Union Beach to give aid and assistance to the tragic victims of Sandy...without government support...without leaders or a formal organization and using their own hard earned monies they are providing free hot food and warming space to anyone in need ...The other night when FEMA suspended their relief efforts during the recent snow storm these "hippies" stayed on the job and are still providing the reflief the local victims so dearly need.
