    Kabul at sunrise

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter Badger1970, currently serving with the U.S. air force in Afghanistan, captured this image of the nation's capital, Kabul, as he flew in from the U.S. army air base in Bagram. "There are certain images that show that, even though we all consider Afghanistan a war-ravaged, poor country (and it is), there are still moments of beauty to be found here," he said. This shot was selected as CNN's Travel Photo of the Day for January 10, 2013.

    It's not exactly a vacation photo, but it's my travel photo of the day as I flew from Point A to Point B in Afghanistan.

    Shortly after sunrise, our helicopter flew over Kabul and I managed to get this shot.

    It was pointed out that what I thought was a picturesque mist shrouding the city was actually air pollution.

    The persistent haze over Kabul is caused by emissions from cars, poor quality fuel and people burning trash as fuel or for heat.
