    Eye on Namibia

Miss Helena and Her Many Learners

A colleague and I manage a philanthropic project benefiting the learners, teachers, and schools of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) in the far North of Namibia. Our project is called Empowering Learners and we are now starting our third year. We value our partnership with our brothers and sisters in the North and we have learned so much as we travel this educational journey with them. You can read all about our efforts at: www.empoweringlearnersnamibia.org. Our current project is providing the funding needed ($5,000USD) for the Pastor Philippus Henok Kindergarten. The kindergarten currently exists and it was built by Miss Helena the kindergarten's teacher. She's a force to be reckoned with! She is pictured here with the learners and outside of the metal shed which serves as the school. Kindergarten learners are with Miss Helena for one year and they learn English well enough in this amount of time to transition to primary school. The new kindergarten building (located in Oshigambo) will be completed in late November with a concrete slab floor (to avoid washing out during the rainy season) a roof, windows, a door, and hopefully a chair for every child. Namibians hold education dear and we are happy to assist as we are able. We hope you enjoy reading about Empowering Learners.
