'Superstorm' Sandy: Your stories
Pre-stock emergency supplies
There are automatic warehouses that can package and transport items in record time. Amazon uses such warehouses. That is why your package can arrive in just a couple of days if you use Amazon for shipment. Can a big order be made to stock up on the tents and large generators for the next disaster? This way after a disaster occurs, these items could be packaged in shipping containers using these warehouses. Then it would be transported as close as possible to the disaster area by using semis, rail, ports and air.
Then the military could use Navy helicopters to air lift these items to open air areas like parks, school grounds or large parking lots.
At other times, these tents and large generators could be used to create large camps for the youth. There is something magical of living outside your neighborhood for a couple of weeks. These camps could be a home away from gangs and family problems. Camp themes may include boy scouts events, getting into shape through sports events, or other leaning opportunities events.
These camps would be strategically placed near a rail, port, or highway passage way. So these tents and generators could be quickly unassembled, then sent to these automatic warehouses in case of future disasters.
Unfortunately, there will be more disasters to occur around this country. Can easy to set up tents and large generators be stocked for future disasters? Can these items create new camps in between these disasters? Can more automatic warehouses and shipping be used to transport needed supplies for future disasters. Are these concepts doable for the next major disaster? You be the judge.
