Tibet continues to burn
Yesterday another 18-year-old Tibetan teenager named Gompo Tsering set himself on fire in front of lushu Shadrup Darjeeling monastery, in labrang lushu, Amdo, and died. He is the 7th self-immolator this week and 70th of the people who have burned themselves to protest the communist government of china.
Since the February of 2009, in which this new form of non-violent protesting began, 70 Tibetans have self-immolated. They include monks, nuns, men, women, students and parents. The oldest self-immolator is 64 while the youngest is 15. The slogans that those self-immolators raised are "we want freedom" and "we want the return of his holiness the Dalai Lama".
It's sadly certain that the self-immolation will continue unless china changes its policy on Tibet and grants Tibetans their basic human rights and freedom.
