    Faces of the bazaar

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Badger1970 says she was in a bazaar in Kabul, Afghanistan, on October 2012 where she photographed an array of Afghan women. 'I was hesitant at first because during my first experience taking photos at a bazaar, one woman had turned away and covered her face, even though she was in the background. I later found that if I asked first, they would agree to be photographed,' she said. She says she really enjoyed photographing Afghan women. 'I think I really enjoyed how serene the women looked in some of the pictures. There were women who looked directly at the camera and had no problem with their photo being taken. This allowed me to capture how beautiful their eyes are,' she said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

When I first brought my camera to the bazaar here and began to take a photo of a man selling jewelry, a movement behind the man in the shot caught my eye. A woman I hadn't noticed in the background was covering her face and turning away to avoid being photographed.

From that point on, I believed that Afghan women did not want their photos taken so I was surprised when I approached a few at a women's bazaar and they agreed to a picture.

The children are definitely not shy and after taking a group photo of three young girls, one of them took me by the hand and led me to her table, saying "and now you will buy from me." I laughed at what a savvy businesswoman she was, and ended up buying a few bracelets that shed red glitter everywhere.
