Diwali in The Netherlands
In 'Dutch little India' (as the City of Amstelveen in The Netherlands is sometimes called), Diwali is a joyous
festival and a party at the main square for everyone, young and old, male and female, rich and poor.
Especially children welcome this feast of lights, symbolically referred to as 'the victory of good over evil, the victory of light over darkness, victory of the bliss of ignorance.'
Although this picture was not taken this year, it displays the enjoyment of the children with their light sticks just before the celebration is concluded with some fireworks.
