CNN celebrates ... Diwali |
Deewali Celebarations in Singapore
The 60-year-old IT engineer has been living in Singapore for two years but is originally from India: “I don’t celebrate [Diwali] since I hail from a province in India namely Kerala, where this festival is not an important one. India has so many provinces with different festivals and for me this festival is more a case of participating in the event rather than full fledged celebrating of the festival itself.”
- stinabacker, CNN iReport producer
Singapore has a large Indian population and one of the festivals celebrated here on
a grand scale is "Deepavali", minus the firecrackers which is one of the highlights of its celebrations back in India. Here, just like in India lots of people set out for their annual Deepavali shopping. Henna application on the hands of ladies is done in a big way. Little India is sight to behold at this time of the year... the whole area is decorated and ablaze with lights and color, and vibrant music giving the area the true feeling of festivity.
