    "The cultural emphasis on the idea of "good trumping evil" through the use of bright colors, firecrackers, lights, and lamps, I believe, add a powerful and magical element to the day," he says.

    "This idea is very uplifting, especially in a country where most days are characterized by pervasiveness of poverty and other "evils" in the world. This Diwali is also special because it is my first time celebrating the holiday!"
