Solar Eclipse on Hamilton Island
"The first pic is of the crowd gathered on One Tree Hill to watch the eclipse. Quite a lot of people for so early in the morning. I was on my morning run when I thought I should stop and start to take it all in," he says."
"The second pic was of the eclipse, however obviously from an iPhone it’s hard (impossible) to capture the eclipse itself."
My two attached Instagram's were taken around 6.45am this morning at One Tree Hill, one of the highest points on Hamilton Island, right in the middle of the eclipse.
Hamilton Island is in the Whitsundays, on the Great Barrier Reef and is the home of qualia, which was recently awarded the title of "Best Resort In The World" by Condé Nast Traveller.
The first pic is of the crowd gathered on One Tree Hill to watch the eclipse. Quite a lot of people for so early in the morning. I was on my morning run when I thought I should stop and start to take it all in.
The second pic was of the eclipse, however obviously from an iPhone it's hard (impossible) to capture the eclipse itself, hence I included the hash tags: #idonthavetherightequipment #iburntmyretina #stoplookingdirectlyatthesun #sixyearoldkidsdidabetterjobwithacardboardbox #eclipse #solareclipse #stillabeautifulsite #nobetterlocationtoviewit. It was very tongue in cheek!
I’ve always been intrigued by anything to do with space, the planets, stars etc. I’m certainly no expert on astronomy and have no real knowledge other than what I’ve learnt from various TV shows and news articles, but the whole thing just amazes me. I often lay on my balcony with the lights off looking into space, with the realisation of how small and insignificant our lives and problems really are!
Australia and specifically Hamilton Island has such clear and unpolluted skies that you get to see detail in a dark sky, rarely seen in other parts of the world.
So when the sun, moon and earth are all perfectly aligned for a very short period of time, and when you live in one of the best geographical locations for viewing it, you just have to get excited.
