    Madrid General Strike - Atocha Central Station Demonstrations

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     iReporter fcarrizo captured this video of protesters at a train station in Madrid, Spain, who have taken to the streets as part of Europe wide demonstrations against austerity measures and rising unemployment. "The atmosphere was rather tense with heavy police presence," he said. "My experience with the crisis hasn't been that strong because I work for the private sector, but I have noticed that in the public health system family doctors are more reluctant to send you to specialists so as to avoid 'unnecessary' costs." Other cities in Spain, including Barcelona, are experiencing demonstrations, while in Greece and Portugal protests are also taking place.

    A nationwide strike was called by the health, transport and education sectors in order to protest against the government's regulations on public expenses. I recorded this at the central train station when I was about to take the commuter to work.
