Ireland: Over 20,000 march in protest in Dublin
Over 20,000 people of all backgrounds, race and gender turned out in solidarity to let their anger and voices be heard by all in Irish government.
Protestors braved the cold temperatures and rain to march along the city streets waving placards and banners to highlight their anger at the government's lack of action.
One particular placard simply read 'I'm here to say sorry for my country', while a banner draped along Dublin's infamous Ha'Penny Bridge read 'Legislate Now'.
As the candlelit vigil and minute long silence was held in remembrance of Savita Halappanavor, the overall message of the march was undeniably clear, to pressure the Irish government to 'Act Now'.
Powerful speakers, such as politician Clare Daly, were met with thunderous applause as they clearly communicated what was on everyone's minds, hearts and lips, 'Shame on the government's political cowardice and their failure to deal with this issue'.
Only two months previous, 3,000 protestors stood at the very same spot as they did today in Dublin to demand legislation so that no young woman would end up in the tragic circumstances that Savita did.
Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach (Prime Minister of Ireland) has stated that he 'will not be rushed on the matter', infuriating thousands upon thousands of Irish people.
Further vigils, marches and protests are being arranged all over Ireland next week, so that the Irish government can not be allowed to delay the absolute need for this immediate legislation.
Irish groups within in the U.S. are also organizing their own vigils and protests with New York holding one next Monday 20th November at Barnard College, which I will be attending.
We will take every necessary step as a nation to protect all women in our country, while hoping that this incident has helped to raise further awareness on women's rights in all countries around the world.
If you can, light a candle, take a moment's silence or join in the many vigils so that we remember Savita's story and vow to never allow this to happen again.
