This iReport is part of an assignment:
Wall Street crisis and you |
Living within your means is KEY!
I have given up any unnecessary spending! I have all that I need right now, and my husband and I are doing just fine. Sure things come along, but we've got an emergency fund all ready. If I need it, I'm sure I'll be reluctant to use it, but it's there.
We make about $75K a year, and are up in MA which isn't the cheapest place to live. However, we found a home that WE CAN AFFORD, and I really can't tell you the last time we bought something that we really don't need.
I spend a few minutes each day balancing the checkbook and checking our online accounts, as well as keeping track of the budget. We have built a comfortable savings account, and while we're not quite ready to retire (maybe in 20 years), we live within our means and don't rack up credit card debt.
We do treat ourselves to eating out every once in a while, but we'll usually go to a place that we have a coupon for, because that extra five bucks can go a long way.
I am so OCD about spending, that I find that I've got a (bad) habit of remembering what I paid for everything. But I take pride in it. When I get a compliment on a shirt that I got on sale, usually less than $10 sale, I'll tell the person "I got it at blank for x amount." I may be perceived as cheap, but I love getting good deals!!
We clip coupons, and shop sale prices. I'd say we're doing great because we are aware that we SHOULD ONLY SPEND LESS THAN WHAT WE EARN! And the rest is saved. Three things are key to this economy: responsibility, budget, and frugality!
