A Police Ride-Along Through the Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy
'There's been stories of people driving in from out of state to come and loot, which to me is like victimizing the victims all over again. How could you even think that?'
crumpf77 likened the scene to the haunting quiet seen at the climax of the film 'Planet of the Apes.'
'There was an eeriness to how quiet the entire area was," he wrote in an e-mail to CNN. 'The only sounds were the constant beeping of smoke detectors coming from the houses and the pounding of the waves.'
Another picture shows the Surf Club, a popular local hangout that suffered damage. We spoke to him on the phone while he was walking around that area, with waves audibly crashing in the background. 'The Surf Club was hammered, just hammered,' he said.
We invite others to document what they're seeing in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy; please use caution and don't put yourself at risk.

November 21, 2012 - Ortley Beach / Seaside Heights, NJ. A Police ride-along through Hurricane Sandy ravaged communities with Sergeant Shaun O'Keeffe and Officer Duncan MacRae of the Toms River Police Department. Even after more than three weeks the scene was heart-wrenching! Blocks of homes were gone, as well as, many known businesses. Our hearts go out to all of the victims. We want to give a special thanks to the Toms River Police Department for their time and assistance. Photos by Susan Rumpf and Clifford Rumpf / ImagineThisDesign.com
