Big Oil Fights To End Horse Slaughter

Everyone has seen the T. Boone Pickens recent ads discussing his reusable energy plan, but not many of us knew he also was a strong supported to end horse slaughter in America and the transport of American horses to Mexico and Canada. Even more surprisingly he isn't the only oil company owner who is working tirelessly to keep American horses safe. Victoria McCullough, owner of Chesapeake Petroleum, Equestrian and Wellington, Fl Resident will be in Washington D.C. to speak at the Judicial Committee on Behalf of H.R.6598 The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2008 Victoria McCullough has become an outspoken opponent of horse slaughter and reached out to South Florida Horse Rescue, Pure Thoughts, Inc Horse and Foal Rescue last year. The rescue and Ms. McCullough teamed up and this past Memorial Day weekend out bid kill buyers for 163 horses. Those horses were brought to Florida where they continue to be adopted and retrained so they can find new homes. It was the largest one day save ever attempted in the U.S. Today in Washington, DC, the judicial committee holds the welfare of American horses in their hands and people all over the US are watching the webcast of the bill discussion and vote. Despite recent information in the form of research and first hand accounts that have come forward proving that horse slaughter breeds neglect not deter it, opponents of the bill continue to insist that if the transport for slaughter was stopped horses would be starved and neglected. Equine Industry Experts have stated that neglect and abuse has always occurred and having horse slaughter as an option to dump horses anonymously only encourages irresponsible horse owners to continue these practices. Co-Founder of Pure Thoughts, Inc Horse and Foal Rescue, Jennifer Swanson has been very busy giving interviews to local Palm Beach stations. ABC's WPBF and NBC's WPTV have been covering the vote. WPBF Channel 25 aired live all morning on September 17 from the rescue's farm.
