Coffeechug: Journey of Getting It Done!
This is my application video for the CNN Fit Nation Challenge. It is simple and simple to showcase my thoughts and what I have to offer. My blog is where I document my training as well as my thoughts and ideas as a teacher and coach. The blog is an extension of myself where I hope to bridge connections between the classroom, the fields, and my training with my students.
My goal is being part of this team is to document and show my students and my family that anything is possible. By working to GETTING IT DONE! anyone can accomplish their goals if they really want to. I hope my journey helps students pursue their passions in life. I want to be a role model not only within my classroom walls, but also outside of the school day.
I am relatively new to the sport. I started my journey in triathlon one year ago. I had started running two years prior as a way to get motivated to get in shape when my pants no longer fit and I was pushing 240 lbs. My first year of running was terrible with a long process to be able to run a half marathon. I ended up with a stress fracture and found myself out of shape again. The second year of running I trained and completed my first marathon. After that training I was burned out of running and needed something new and challenging. That is where the world of triathlons kicked in.
I started in January of 2012 when I was not able to swim one length of a pool and had to push beyond my mental barriers and not give up even when I wanted to. Through perseverance and hard work I was able to not only swim more than one length, but I reached my goal of completing a 70.3 Ironman.
With one year under my belt I still have a lot to accomplish. Weight is an issue. Mental toughness and nutrition are even bigger obstacles. Eating healthy is the hardest thing to do in America with so much saturation of garbage food around. I would love to be part of this team to learn how to train and take care of my body better. There is so much to learn.
My goals this year are to actually beat all my first year times as well as figure out how to fuel properly after blacking out in my 70.3 Racine race. Even more important I want to complete a full Ironman.
