MOLDAW RESIDENTS TO HOLD INSPIRATIONAL ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW
Seniors in their 70s, 80s and 90s who live at Moldaw Residences are exploring their talents and learning how to express themselves in creative, unique ways. Twenty of the residents plan to share their art with the public and sell some striking selections at an arts and crafts show on December 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Janet Roseman, an 88-year-old Moldaw resident and artist, looks forward to the event. After all, she creates 40 pieces of pottery and ceramics a week.
“I started making pottery in 1974 when my husband told me I should retire and get a hobby. I even went back to college to study the art form,” said Roseman. “I work on my pottery every day for 3 to 5 hours a day. It gives me a sense of freedom, and I lose myself in it. It keeps me interested in life.”
Roseman also enjoys teaching the residents’ grandchildren how to make pottery. She
finds satisfaction in giving pieces away to friends who are sick or in need. She hopes the event will give her a chance to talk with other artists and hear what the public thinks of her creations.
“I like to show off my work, and I am interested in feedback,” said Roseman. “If people like it, I am flattered. If they buy it, I am thrilled.”
Moldaw Residences is hosting the art show to demonstrate the way residents are using art to communicate their thoughts on the world around them. The show will also send a message that anyone at any age can create something beautiful.
“I hope that our residents show the public that it is never too late to develop a talent as an artist,” said Miki Raver, lifestyles services director, Moldaw Residences. “We have people who have never painted or made ceramics before, and we have others who started making art as children. Their passion, creativity and talent truly inspire me.”
The Moldaw Residents Arts and Crafts Show will take place on Sunday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oshman Family JCC in room G103, 3921 Fabian Way in Palo Alto. For more information, call Moldaw Residences at 800-873-9614.
