Don't Eat Anything Bigger Than Your Head

The Brown Bear is an eatery in the heart of the fruit orchards of West Michigan. Located in the small, don't blink or you'll miss it, village of Shelby, MI. It is just a few miles through peach , cherry and apple trees to Silver Lake surrounded by sand dunes the likes of Saudi Arabia ! Beyond the dunes is the most beautiful body of fresh water in the world, Lake Michigan ! It is this fresh backdrop that has given birth to The Brown Bear. The atmosphere is truly local as mismatched chandeliers hang above log tables and old fashioned mirrors garace the pine walls. The tin ceiling is certainly an original dating back to the early 1900s when the building was home to some other business. The main menu attraction is the Bear Burger which is the size of a dinner plate and includes a huge patty of ground beef topped with ham , cheese , tomatoes, peppers, onions, lettuce , mayo and the condiments of your choice! Any patron that is able to eat the Bear Burger gets it for free ! Other smaller burgers such as the Cub Burger are available for the less adventurous or the less hungry. An extensive selection of soups is posted on the white board each day along with daily specials. The broasted chicken is another favorite along with the enormous onion rings. A full bar is at your disposal, however beer might be the local favorite to wash down the Bear Burger. As you leave, notice the fruit crates stacked along the main street giving this tiny town its Michigan charm!
