    Maasai Grazers

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mpagedas told me, "I was part of a medical mission team in Tanzania for two years. My job was to develop public health education programs to be utilized by local villages. Being in Africa for that long, I also wanted to move around and explore. I climbed Kilimanjaro, hung out with mountain gorillas in Uganda, saw Jane Goodall's chimps, visited the Turkana tribe in Northern Kenya, and visited the spot where Henry Stanley uttered the phrase, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" back in 1871."

At the culmination of a two-year mission assignment in Tanzania back in May, 2012, I made a visit to Ngorongoro Crater with a couple of Maasai friends (not pictured). This picture was taken during a game drive in the crater. Maasai are allowed grazing rights through Ngorongoro (now a protected conservation area), but it was still somewhat surreal watching these warriors grazing their cattle right alongside a herd of zebra.
