When Was the Last Time a Maasai Warrior Took a Picture of YOU?

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     mpagedas told me, 'I was part of a medical mission team in Tanzania for two years. My job was to develop public health education programs to be utilized by local villages. Being in Africa for that long, I also wanted to move around and explore. I climbed Kilimanjaro, hung out with mountain gorillas in Uganda, saw Jane Goodall's chimps, visited the Turkana tribe in Northern Kenya, and visited the spot where Henry Stanley uttered the phrase, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" back in 1871. When my assignment ended in early May, I decided to go out with a bang. I traveled with a couple of my Maasai friends to their home village in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We went on a game drive together (when that picture was taken), and the next day I visited their village. When I left Tanzania, rather than return to the US the way I came, I decided to continue heading east so I could fulfill a dream of circumnavigating the globe. I started in Egypt (post-Mubarak, pre-Morsi) and went from there to India, Malaysia, Borneo, Australia, and Papua New Guinea, all in the span of one month.'
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

At the culmination of a two-year mission assignment in Tanzania, I decided to celebrate by traveling to Ngorongoro Crater in May, 2012 with a couple of my Maasai friends. One of them, Saitoti, was given a camera by another friend who had joined us, and the two of us "squared off." For the record, we did not charge each other for the pictures. ;)
