Yi Peng Festival - Chiang Mai, Thailand
Northern Thailand's colourful Yi Peng festival coincides with Thailand's Loy Kratong festival. A multitude of ornate, brightly lit lanterns and floats surround the city of Chiang Mai for 1 week and a parade is held on the final day of the festival.
A very unique part of the Yi Peng festival are lanterns made from rice paper which float up to the sky when a fuel cell attached to the bottom of the lantern is lit. The resulting hot air is trapped inside the lantern creating enough lift for the lantern to float up high into the sky. A thousand points of light indeed!
