This iReport is part of an assignment:
Salute to troops
My big sister, My hero: SSgt Maria Isabel Garza-Lloyd
My sister is currently deployed and is missing the holidays. She is my role model when it comes to my military career.
Ever since I saw how much she enjoyed the military starting with JROTC in high school, it motivated me to do the same. I followed in her foot steps and of course 27 days after graduation I was off to Basic Training to carry out my enlistment. I've since then been in for 8 years and there's more to come. She inspired me to always carry out what i set my mind to and for this I thank her.
We will high five when she comes back just in time to see me off when I leave for my next tour, but it only makes me cherish the time we can spend together. Even though we are stationed in the same city, fate has kept us apart so we can fullfill our country's duties. For this reason I choose to express my emotions via a social media network.
I want to wish her a very Happy Birthday come this Saturday, December 1, 2012, and hope that she enjoys her day as much as she can. Even though we don't always see eye to eye and we have a massive amount of differences, it doesn't change the fact that your mere existence impacts my life in such a wonderful way. I love her more than words can tell and I hope in this time of year, she finds joy regardless of the distance. She is always in my heart and in my mind. With all the love in my heart, your little sister and the pain you will never get rid of, Vanessa. <3
