All-American Hot Dog Stand Nestled In The Berkshires

Nestled in The Berkshire Hills, is my hometown, North Adams, Massachusetts. The city has an ever-growing, close-knit and diverse, population. It is home to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and the former Sprague Electric complex turned world-known MassMoCA. It is a place of small businesses, local services, art galleries, eateries and coffee shops. The best known and longest running place to get a bite to eat is Jack's Hot Dog Stand. Family owned and operated out of the same location since 1917, it happens to be one of the oldest hot dog stands in The Unites States. It seems nobody comes to or leaves North Adams without visiting Jack's Hot Dog Stand. A single row of bar-style seating, it is usually filled with patrons. Often, there are people standing to wait for a seat and others coming in for their take-out orders. Prices have managed to stay low over the decades. One can get hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, onion rings, chicken on a bun, chili on anything, chocolate milk from the fountain and more, your way and fresh, in a short amount of time. It is all prepared right across the counter from you and tastes the way this sort of fare ought to. Young and old alike have participated in the Jack's monthly hot dog eating contest, with the top eaters posted at all times and the monthly winner receiving their name on the board of fame and a t-shirt. The workers get to know the regulars by first name and how they like their dogs. I like 3 chili cheese dogs with mustard and extra, extra onions. If you are a local, the chance of seeing someone(s) you know at Jack's is very high. It's like the Cheers of Hot Dog Stands. Jack's has been a landmark in our town for decades. What is most amazing is, it has been a consistant and successful, family owned and operated, small business, in ever changing times for nearly 100 years. That is no small feat! One could not accurately put a number on the people that have visited Jack's over the years and have become repeat customers. But what can accurately be said, is that Jack's Hot Dog Stand has been well-loved by countless folks from many walks of life for generations. If any local business should be recognized, it is Jack's Hot Dog Stand. Jack's truly explempifies "Eating Like A Local." Come out and explore North Adams, Massachusetts. Jack's Hot Dog Stand and the hard-working, creative and industrious people of this city, will always welcome you.
