CNN Fit Nation: 2013 Triathlon Challenge
Live life to the fullest
Last year I watched a dear friend succumb to a 2 year battle with cancer. Dan's life and battle with cancer touched my heart in the deepest way. I felt inspired to live my life to the fullest potential and to meet each challenge with an open heart. The challenge of a triathlon would be so much more than a physical feat for me. While I am totally freaked out and filled with doubt and fear as to whether or not I am even capable of doing this, I know deep down I have to take the leap. In taking this leap I will step off that cliff, out of my comfort zone and face myself fully- physically, mentally and spiritually.
I am a 42 yr. old mom of three boys. I teach yoga and coach my son s kindergarten soccer team. I want to show my family that no matter how difficult a challenge may be, we have it within ourselves to dig deep, meet that challenge and soar. I have never done a Triathlon, but once ran a 5k. I am not a good runner AT ALL, I used to swim competitively, but that was many years ago and I am a pretty slow bike rider. I know that despite all of this, if I put my mind to it and commit, I can do this!
By embarking on this journey, I will honor Dan and his family and all of those who have faced adversity with an open heart. I also hope to inspire my children to know that their potential is limitless and it is when we step outside of our zone of comfort that we have the chance to really live life to the fullest.
