Super Storm Sandy vs Fire Island Church
The hardest hit areas appear to be the communities of Atlantique (which looked like a war zone after the storm) and portions of Ocean Bay Park. A breach between the Atlantic Ocean & the Great South Bay occurred in several spots on the eastern end of the Island. Some appear to be quite large. Across the Island – there was quite a bit of damage from flooding - the flood waters were about 3 feet deep and stretched from the ocean to the bay.
This church was spared the worst of Mother Natures’ fury, but there were downed trees everywhere.
