CNN Fit Nation: 2013 Triathlon Challenge
Setting the Right Example
Five years ago, my wife decided to take up exercise and made it an important part of her life. She has completed numerous races including half-marathons and triathlons. For all of her races, I have stood on the side lines and watched. Taking in life as an observer and not a participant isn’t enough. Make me accountable to Fit Nation, and not only will I start, I will finish.
I used to be active. As a teenager, I used to love to swim a mile. As a grad student, I biked with friends all around Oregon and Washington up and down hills and around the Olympic Peninsula. Now I can still bike flats, but not fast enough to keep up with friends who do long rides.
I have 3 kids that I want to be proud of me and my accomplishments. I want to inspire them and other young people around the nation by showing that an ordinary guy can turn his life around and make the choice to be healthy. I am a Boy Scout Leader who leads the boys in an oath to be physically strong. How can I convince them as to the importance of exercising if I don’t?
Help me show the world what I can do! What we can do together on our journey.
