where do the locals eat on the North Shore?
I heard this broadcast on Saturday morning about where the locals eat and thought about my favorite restaurant in my neigborhood - Frank and Betsie's Restaurant in Glencoe, Illinois. I live on the North Shore of Chicago where there are many places to eat, but nothing is like Frank and Betsie's. It's a husband and wife business who have been around forever it seems. They're a fixture in the neighborhood with the best food and desserts. Everything homemade. My favorite for lunch is the Buffalo Chicken Salad (I always start with a seasonal soup like their Butternut Squash Bisque - it's like no other!). My wife likes the Skinny Salad which has a garnish of popcorn instead of croutons - go figure! We go there for dinner for date night and with friends and family, too. My favorite dinner item is the Lamb Shank. I always reserve it when I make a reservation, because they sell out of it so quickly. Other places try to copy it, but no one can make it the way that they do at Frank and Betsie's.
My favorite thing about Frank and Betsie's is that it has that neighborhood vibe. You see people of all generations. They all know each other and meet and greet at the tables. It's like a club. The owners and waitstaff all know the people and greet them by name. The staff has been with them for years, so they must be good bosses, becasue everyone seems happy.
