Fire on the Mountain by Neal Moore (CNN iReport) CAPE TOWN, South Africa. Raw video footage of firefighting helicopters battling the first fire of the summer season to hit Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Three Cape Town Fire helicopters are seen in use, dipping their buckets into the city's reservoir to battle the blaze from first light. As I was taking this footage between 6am and 7am, local time, the helicopters swooped in several times. Local news has reported that residents on the base of the mountain were evacuated the night before when the blaze and the winds were much stronger. It appeared the fire helicopters work was doing the trick as the amount of white smoke coming off the mountain subsided during the hour I shot video. Every year multiple fires break out on and near Table Mountain due to Southeaster or "Cape Doctor" winds that whip and whirl around the city at this time of year. Table Mountain in Cape Town has recently been declared a UNESCO world heritage natural wonder.
