Caraga is a small town in the province of Davao Oriental on the east coast of Mindanao. It is located only 35 miles south of typhoon Bopha's landfall. With a poverty rate near 70%, Caraga is not equipped to shelter or evacuate its vulnerable population. The storm's fury was as destructive in Caraga as anywhere else on Mindanao. Few houses there escaped damage, and now the survivors are suffering from hunger, lack of medicine food and water. Highway bridges were destroyed complicating relief efforts even further. Without immediate attention from the outside world there will be more suffering and death. May the outside world please hear a plea for help not only for Caraga but all who suffered from this disastrous storm. The photos here were taken by Len Sy Ituralde.
