One Million Kids Gathered Together To Change the World
On Saturday December 8, 2012, one million kids from 7,000 schools throughout Thailand and also from other countries came to Wat Phra Dhammakaya to be a part of the "7th V-Star Change the World" project. These kids are called ‘V-Stars'. V-Star stands for virtuous stars. They are youth moral leaders in their schools and community. The V-Star project of the world morality restoration project has been organized in the year 2008, making this year the 7th time this project has taken place. This is the only place in the world to have activities and events to instill morals in children, teaching them to do good deeds, the outcome of good and bad, meditating together, and changing the world with their own hands. The “V-Star Change the World” project as part of the World Morality Revival project was initiated by Phrathepyanmahamunee (Luang Phor Dhammachayo), the abbot of Wat Phra Dhammakaya and the President of the Dhammakaya Foundation and it is carried out by the International Buddhist Society.
The purpose of this event is for virtuous stars from all over Thailand and also different country to come together to be moral support for one another. They are able to come together to meet and share their experiences of doing good deeds daily. The theme of this year is heaven vs. hell. They get to learn a lot of Dhamma from the exhibitions and 3D animations that are being displayed and shown here. The exhibitions display the truth of life based on the law of karma. By seeing these exhibitions about the history of the Lord Buddha, hell, heaven, and how to change the world through meditation, these V-Stars will have a better understanding of the result of doing good deeds and not want to do bad deeds. What will come out of this is that these V-Stars will want to share their experiences with their families, friends, and communities from being a part of this remarkable project.
The future of the world lies in the hands of our youth, which are these virtuous kids. It is easier to instill morals within kids because they are willing to learn and better themselves as they grow up to be good leaders in their communities. To impact the world, it has to start with something small. When small things come together it creates something big capturing the attention of many people around the world. When people are able to see such an event take place to instill morals into our youth, they become interested and want to be a part of it as well.
