    Australian Surf-Boat Competition

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     TheNYBureau photographed the Australian Surf-Boat Competition in Queensland, Australia, on December 8. He says the sport is widely popular in Australia because of the surfing and beach culture. ‘Hundreds show up to cheer on family and friends and just to see the spectacle. It is one of the most colorful and photogenic sports I have ever had the pleasure to witness,' he said.

    In Australia most beaches have a Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). They compete throughout the year both nationally and intra/inter-state in a variety of traditional competitions. Each club has it's colours and the competitors are some of the fittest amateur athletes on the planet. This weekend on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia a "surf-boat" competition took place. It was a sunny day with perfect conditions. Here are some of my images. gt
