100 places to eat like a local
The Italian Bar of choice: Bar Alba
With oversized glasses of Italian wine and amazingly, delicious & delicate desserts, you'll have two words: "Mmmm!" and "Grazie!" Sorry, this dreamland is not Stateside but when you venture to southern Italy to the island of Sicily, you'll find Bar Alba in the heart of Palermo. Locals flood the bar for a treat with a friend or solo, to go or seated. It's never too early or late in the day for a few cannoli- my personal favorite. And, you never need a reason to have dessert, it's simply a part of their lifestyle! I lived in Sicily for about a year with new family, who are natives to the island. We visited all of their favorite places and Bar Alba easily became mine. Whether you want something sweet or salty, Bar Alba is where you want to go. It's where locals walk to for a quick bite. It's where they grab Arancini on the run. It's also where they go when they want a tray of dozens of cannoli and desserts. Take one look at the pistachio gelato, the creamy cannoli and.... well, you get the point. You'll want a one-way ticket and a taxi - first stop? Bar Alba.
