    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     "It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to photograph the entire Milky Way from a southern hemisphere location," says iReporter and New Mexico based physicist patcolestock.

    "My wife and I got that chance this year as we travelled to the high desert in northern Chile in winter to do so."

My wife and I got that chance this year as we travelled to the high desert in northern Chile in winter to do so. The skies there were stunning, and I got the image of a lifetime. We also visited ALMA, the new radio telescope at 15K feet, the highest we have ever been. It was a geek's dream vacation.
