    Making it in America: Mompreneurs

    Caking is what I do

I guess my story is no different than anyone else's story. I'm a single mom residing in the state of North Carolina. What makes me different is that you probably don't know many women named Marque pronounced Mark so I suppose that's different...lol. Life is never a straight highway, there's always curves and I've had my share. However, I count it all joy even when I don't feel like it. A little over 6 years ago I became ill. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. At the time I was just thankful to finally have a diagnosis but the words "no cure" pretty much paralyzed me. It took some time for me to accept those words but, I did! I live and that's all that matters. I have my days sometimes but, who doesn't. When you're ill, you worry about your condition as well as finances. I was wondering how I was going to make it. At that moment I began to think about things I've aways wanted to do. I also thought I about things I liked to do. I always wanted to have my own business and it was time to get serious about it. Almost 2 years ago I stepped out on faith and started a custom cake business. I say stepped out on faith because that's all I had! I'm determined that I will never work for anyone again. It hasn't been easy but, I still believe. This gift I have, I didn't borrow or steal it. God gave it to me so therefore He intends for me to be prosperous at it! I pray the same prayer every day. It's not that I don't believe God hears me but, each and every time I say it I reaffirm my faith and belief that He will do just what He said. Thus prayer in remembrance of the promise. Some days I'm uncertain where this business is going but, giving up isn't an option. I enjoy what I do and it doesn't feel like work. My creations are art! This business gives me the freedom to be me and a mom all day everyday! It makes me proud to have something , although small, that's all my own. I'm still building and branding it but, I believe everything happens for a reason and this is truly my season! I'm Marque A. Patterson and caking is what I do.....literally! #alsgifts4u #cake
