    Making it in America: Mompreneurs

I was the largest publisher of artwork from television commercials having created the first animation art lines for Coca-Cola, Anheuser-Bush, M&M/Mars, Nike, etc. Then, I wanted to do something completely different so I sold it off to create a business making celebrity rubber ducks of the greatest icons of film, music, history, and athletics which was voted one of the top 100 gifts by Entertainment Weekly.

Still, I could see the need to totally transform our business and do something no-one else had done before. The reason being that to me the biggest challenge facing business and Americans in general is preventing the manufacturing industry from getting gutted and us losing our edge as a world business power. Where manufacturing goes, the service industries also follow. You cannot ever give that up and think that there are not consequences. Outsourcing everything will have great consequences in the future. So we decided to do something quite radical.

Before us, no-one did licensed rubber ducks as the intricacy in the sculpting and painting we offered was unheard of. We have ended up selling over a million ducks and creating a whole new company that does a line of celebrity rubber ducks that were featured on hundreds of TV shows, magainzes, and newspapers including The Tonight Show. I'll post our press kit letter below.

So in a nutshell, I saw companies unwilling to take the risk of bringing their manufacturing back here. Well for me, the most important thing was bringing a whole industry back to America. The rubber duck was actually invented in the USA. Now every rubber duck is made overseas. We're brought the whole rubber duck industry back here and are now the only ones making them in America once again!!

You can read more In our Made in America section on our website and we even have a blog that tracks the birthing of this industry returning here. I know it's a very expensive and big risk. But I don't regret one moment of doing this. In terms of benefits, we have companies and organizations from Harley-Davidson to The Future Farmers of America having us make ducks for them in America and we are getting national PR for this which is great for the company. In fact gave one to Mitt Romney a few weeks ago!

The first batch of Hatched in the USA ducks sold out right away and now we are moving to our new factory in New York from our current factory in Ohio to speed up the process. If you ever wish to chat more or have me send any pics of our first ducks like SAM or Harley-Davidson, just let me know. By the way, we just did the first ever duck race in American history using ducks made in the USA this past Memorial Day for the State University of New York!
