CNN PRODUCER NOTE     For iReporter jessmunoz it was the long-awaited return of her husband from deployment in Afghanistan that made her 2012. "My friend literally grabbed the camera out of my hands and pushed me in the right direction [to her husband]," she said. "I was so overwhelmed that day I didn't know where to go." The moment signalled the end of a very painful year, she said. "All the stress and fear and pain suddenly was replaced with love and magic and joy. I felt like I had gotten something precious back that was taken from me." The couple have had a tumultous year, moving across the world before settling -- for a few years at least -- in Hangzhou, China. She says she hopes 2013 will be a little less hectic. "I'm looking forward to taking more photos, learning Chinese and spending some time with the man I married!" she said.

In 2012 my husband returned from a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan. Standing in the crowd waiting and then being able to bring him home was ever bit as wonderful as watching him leave was traumatic and horrible. He's not the same as when he left, and neither am I, but whatever else happens in our lives I will always be thankful to have him back home.
