My husband and I took a trip to VT, NH and Maine in July. Oh, so much to see, so little time. We appreciated the immense beauty of all three states, but spent most of our time on Maine's Mount Desert Island.  Along with hiking, kayaking and sight-seeing in and around Acadia National Park (a must-see for anyone who has never been there!) we also went whale watching out of Bar Harbor  and saw finbacks and humpbacks around us. For a few moments a finback was directly below me under and alongside our boat; an immense, ghostly shape just below the surface of the water. Being so close to these beautiful, majestic creatures literally took my breath away! The picture I chose to post here is a quintessential shot of a humpback's tail. I was pleased beyond words to catch the moment! What a gift!
