Grits & Groceries, look for the giant chicken!
Heidi Trull and her husband Joe are no strangers to high end southern cuisine.. They have cooked in some of the finest establishments from Savannah to New Orleans. Both raised in the south, they decided to get back to their farm roots when they began their family. The restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, from salad greens growing in the veggie plot behind the restaurant to the large black hog in the pen named Honey Boo Boo that is rumored to be next years bacon...
The menu begins with things like Praline Bacon, a piece of thick cut bacon topped with brown sugar & pecans and cooked until its crispy, crunchy and served with the comment that it's like "pork candy".
A favorite thing on the menu is the shrimp po'boy. A full dozen shrimp spill over the soft, perfect roll. You have to eat half the shrimp before you can even begin to pick it up.
Grass-fed burgers and home-made pimento cheese sandwiches top off a menu that can only be described as all the things you ever wanted to eat that are indicative of the South and its cuisine.
If you wore your stretchy pants, which is a requirement, you can finish off the meal with homemade ice cream, fig bread pudding or anything else Heidi has decided she has a craving for that day.
Be sure to stop by the ATM on the way. Grits & Groceries only takes cash, check or I.O.U's. No, I'm not kidding!
