    On top of the world - Setting sun from Mt. Whitney

    For 4 weeks in September I backpacked through the Sierra Nevada  in California along the John Muir Trail. On the last night of my trip I  slept on top of Mount Whitney.

     

    The passing clouds and setting sun created a spectacular  display of light and shadow. It was the perfect finish to an amazing  trip.

     

    I celebrated my 29th birthday the next morning at 14,508'.  Someone even gave me a Martini they had hiked up there, complete with  olives.

     

    Watching the sunset, moonrise and finally sunrise from the  highest peak in the continental US was the best Birthday present I could  ever wish for.

     

    We truly live in an an amazing world.
