    Geminid Meteor 12/14/2012

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     glennwester says he was out observing the Geminid Meteor shower at Custer Observatory in Southold, New York, on December 14. 'We saw a rate of about 30 an hour, and this was the brightest one I captured,' he said. He says because light pollution is so bad in New York City, he had to travel eastward for a better view. As an amateur astronomer, he says he loves looking at the night sky. 'Events like this are fun reasons to get out to dark skies and observe the Universe,' he said.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

Photographed this meteor early this morning around 2am at Custer Observatory in Southold NY.
