What we have lost
My heart is unbearably heavy hearing the fading screams and cries of the slaughtered small ones. I cannot shake away the expressions in their eyes and the innocence in their faces as they desperately try to grasp the reality of the world shattering around them. Their teacher has fallen immovable, and their friends seem to be slowly doing the same. All they want to know is "where is my mom and my dad why is this class room not the same and why is that crimson red everywhere?" Little did they know as their innocence was devastated, that a monster is in their midst, a mind and policies which aided it, all gone horribly wrong. Little will they ever understand that this greatest nation on earth, with the mightiest military power ever conceived, cannot protect its own priceless children to live beyond a tender age. Luckily they will not be around, to bear witness to the hand wringing, recriminations and utter malcontent which will prevail for a few days and then the nation will forget them only to remember them again as a statistic for the annual almanac or as a recount for another terrible future such tragedy. The families will never forget them, for all they want from here on is to meet them one day in a far better place than this heaven on earth they thought they had.
If this is my heaven on earth, then I would welcome progress to the stone age, where my children will at least be with me and will live long enough to bury me. No guns will yet prevail, and no 2nd Amendment to protect the peasants from the mythical tyranny of a far superior govt. The govt. doesn't need to do anything if evil is all what it is, for the peasants have found a way to devour their younglings all in the name of that always sought but often elusive freedom.
One day this collective monster in our midst, will not have any small ones to take away, and the rest of us will simply wither away not able to bear what we have lost. And that mythical evil govt. will be still there wondering why it had won, how it defeated the 2nd Amendment and where are all those peasants which it was supposed to fight to just take away their freedom....
