This sculpture is to honor those beautiful lives lost in Newtown. A tragedy beyond words or imagination. As a father of 1st and 5th grade girls, it hit me hard- making the individual pieces moved me beyond words. With no plan in mind i created this piece, drove to Newtown and handed it to an usher collecting offerings at St Rose of Lima during mass Sunday. The sculpture was accepted graciously by Father Bob and immediately placed on the altar where it remains today. It is for people to honor and consider all victims together while looking at a single icon.

Yesterday after thinking about it, I felt that the individual families who have lost a loved one may find comfort in having a representative piece, so today (Tuesday) i made another sculpture, but left the pieces free without fastening them to a base, and placed them loose in a box with some art from my daughters and photos of the original sculpture. Again without a clear plan in mind, i drove up the individual icons, 6 big ones.. and 20 little ones.... and gave it to a wonderful woman who was handling affairs at the church to distribute along with a photo of the sculpture. Each icon alone is moving, but together they stand as a symbol of unity . The circular base symbolizes the earth, and the placement of the individual icons signify adults guarding confused innocent children.
The material was recycled from a piece of my desk and a lighting tool that has been with me for 20 years.
Hopefully it can act as a vessel to share the love and emotion to all who see it.
